Akon launches real life ‘Wakanda’ with own currency

JOBURG – Akon launches AKoin Cryptocurrency to Power Youth Entrepreneurship in Africa.

Entertainer and philanthropist, Akon, announced his plan for a cryptocurrency. Speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity over the past weekend, the musician said the digital cash currency, ‘AKoin‘ is an effort to grow crypto-based apps in Africa to bring economic power to the continent.

In addition to his Lighting Africa project aimed at bringing solar power to sub-Saharan African countries, Akon plans to establish his own ‘Wakanda’ – Akon Crypto City – a futuristic town being developed in Senegal.

Pagesix reported that the city was gifted to the entertainer by Senegal’s president, Macky Sall. The town will reportedly run entirely on AKoin and be within five minutes of a new international airport.
