VIDEO: All is quiet in the Hyde Park area amid #TaxiStrike

HYDE PARK – It has been reported that taxi drivers have left commuters stranded because of Operation Buya Mthetho’s clampdown.

A massive taxi strike is currently taking place in the Alexandra area today, 25 June, and one person tweeted that taxi drivers would meet this morning in Hyde Park at 9am.

The Rosebank Killarney Gazette received information that the Alexandra Taxi Association frequently makes use of the Hyde Park area.

However, Rosebank Killarney Gazette journalist, Koketso Ratsatsi, is scouring the area and has reported that all is quiet with traffic flowing freely and some taxis on Jan Smuts Avenue.

It has been reported that taxi drivers have left commuters stranded because of Operation Buya Mthetho’s clampdown.

The operation has impounded 500 minibus taxis since its launch in February. However, Metro police is of the view that this operation was justified as the taxis were found to be in ‘poor condition’, said spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar in a press statement.
