Highlands North man held for girlfriend’s murder

HIGHLANDS NORTH – A boyfriend is expected back in court facing a charge of murder.

A Highlands North man has been remanded in custody after appearing briefly in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on 15 June, charged with the murder of a girlfriend.

The spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, said their officers responded to a call to attend to a domestic violence case in the area. On arrival, Tshivhase said the suspect told the officers that his girlfriend was lying on the floor bleeding and not waking up.

“The police went inside the house and upon their investigation, they found the woman on the floor and she was not moving,” said Tshivhase.

“They called the paramedics who then certified the woman dead. The woman sustained a wound to her upper body.” He added that an unknown weapon was used.

Following a preliminary investigation, the boyfriend was arrested the next day and taken to the Norwood police cells.

He was remanded to the Johannesburg Central Prison, said Tshivhase adding that the investigation continues.

He, however, could not say when the suspect will be back again in court.
