Residents clean up their park

WAVERLY – Residents take part in A Re Sebetseng and clean up their local park.

The newly formed Waverley Residents, Rate Payers Homeowners Association took part in the monthly A Re Sebetseng at the end of April.

Chairperson of the association, Tracey Lavers, said the clean-up took place on 20 April at the park on the corner of Stirling and Scott streets. “Though the park is quite clean already, the trees have not been trimmed in a long time. So we took the initiative to do some heavy work.

“I think this initiative is amazing, even though we struggle to get people involved. Many residents are quite apathetic and believe that council has to do everything.

The collected waste ready to be taken away by Pikitup.

“As much as they are responsible for cutting the grass in the park, the residents should be taking matters into their own hands. That is the only way we can keep everything the way we want it.”

Lavers urged residents to participate in the event that takes place every third Saturday of the month. On the importance of the initiative, Lavers said, “I think all of us live behind big walls. We don’t know any of our neighbours and we don’t know our suburb. This event helps everyone learn more about their suburb and their neighbours.”
