The best coffee beverages for winter

JOBURG – Try out these amazing hot beverages to keep warm this Winter.

The cold city days are upon us as the winter season is in full effect. It seems like even though we’ve known about the existence of winter and the cold it brings, we still haven’t gotten used to the extreme drop in temperature – no matter how much we layer up.

Luckily, hot drinks offer a great way to warm up on cold winter days. You can head over to one of the City’s many Cafés and eateries for a strong cup of slow roasted coffee or you can even make yourself a quick instant cup at the office or at the comfort of your own home.

City Buzz has got you covered with some of the best warm beverages to indulge in this winter.

Tip: these drinks go well with warm conversations, a good book and even a story or two by the fireplace (or heater).

  • Caffe latte

A coffee-based drink made primarily from espresso and steamed milk, a caffe latte’s foam is usually poured by a barista in a manner that creates a picture. Common pictures that appear in lattes are hearts and ferns. The drink also comes in delicious chocolate or vanilla flavours.

  • Cappuccino

With origins in Italy, cappuccinos are traditionally prepared with a double shot of espresso, and steamed milk foam. The drink is popular with café enthusiasts and is usually recommended for new coffee drinkers. This drink can be had with or without sugar and goes down well with Macademia biscuits.

  • Turkish Coffee

Turkish coffee brings a different coffee-drinking experience. Usually prepared by brewing fine ground coffee, a cup of Turkish coffee is served from a copper cezve (a small long-handled pot with a pouring lip). It has been said that the grounds left after drinking Turkish coffee can be used for fortune-telling. The drink goes well with Turkish delight to tantalize the senses.

  • Africcino

A local spin to cappuccino, the Africcino is a strictly African blend that uses slow-brewed beans from local farmers. The drink is also topped with a rich milky foam that goes very well with a dash of sugar and some chocolate muffins.

  • Black coffee

A household favourite and quick fix, black coffee is ideal for a quick warm-up. While some may use it for all-nighters and to keep up with the workload throughout the day, this instant roast is perfect for reading newspapers and keeping up with current affairs.
