UPDATE: We want justice to prevail, say George Goch hostel residents
JOHANNESBURG – Residents of George Goch said they will take the matter to the Humans Rights Commission.
Residents of George Goch hostel who accuse police of helping themselves to their valuables during a recent raid have finally received their case numbers though some were still expecting theirs.

This was after police raided the men’s hostel in search of suspects who had bombed and robbed two cash-in-transit vehicles in Boksburg in May. Huge amounts of money were taken at the time and police gave chase and followed the suspects all the way to the hostel.
A tuckshop owner, Nhlanhla Mkhize, who lost R5 000 and boxes of his cigarette stock said though he has received his case number for the case he opened against the police, he will only be happy when justice prevails.
“Getting a case number doesn’t mean my stock and money will be returned. I want to see those men brought to book. If police authorities do nothing with this we will seek other legal routes until justice is served,” Mkhize said.

Nkululeko Shelembe, another of the residents of the hostel, showed his broken laptop which he claimed was damaged during the police raid and wondered whether he would get any compensation for it.
Jeppe Police Station spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai confirmed to North Eastern Tribune that hostel residents who lost valuables were given their case numbers last week.
“We opened a case of theft and it is here at the station not with Ipid. One docket was opened, the rest of the complainants submitted their statements and they will all go inside that same docket,” Munyai said.
However, some of the victims were still waiting for SMSs to confirm that their case has been opened.
Induna Skhuphe Makhathini said they were considering to take the matter to Humans Rights Commission because they strongly believe that their human rights were infringed upon and nothing is being done.
