St Mary’s School Waverley celebrates 130th birthday

WAVERLEY – The the oldest girls' school in Johannesburg held their annual Patronal Festival in celebration of the school's birthday.

The St Mary’s School Waverley celebrated its 130th birthday on 29 May through their annual Patronal Festival.

The day’s festivities began with St Mary’s, the oldest girls’ school in Johannesburg, celebrating the Eucharist and continued with a blessing of 11 plaques. Spokesperson for the school Kathy Mittendorf said, “These plaques, one for each of the 11 official South African languages, record an extract from the preamble of the Constitution, confirming our school’s commitment to this spirit and vision.”

The Grade 12 youngsters then hosted a small picnic with bacon and eggs and a special birthday cake before they performed their well-loved, traditional war cry.
