Thornhill Manor manager Esmé Erasmus said, “Loads of planning, designing, and involvement of the village chairman, Dave Webster, went into the project.

“Dave consulted widely with stakeholders to establish exactly what renovations were needed.”

Erasmus added, “The transformation has been very well received, some wondered how we coped before the renovations. The two monthly Sundowner meals have now moved to the hall and are better attended than ever before.

“The kitchen was not user-friendly, Christmas functions were difficult to arrange in terms of the décor, entertainment, serving of meals and the clearing away of dishes. Storage was also a huge problem.”

During the renovations, a snooker room was also built. The retirement village has also introduced a snooker league and tournaments will be held every two weeks. Erasmus added, “There are six other retirement villages involved, with six members on each team and games are played at home and away. We now have over 20 residents, both male and female, who are actively playing snooker.”
