Lillian Kur Fund for Senior Citizens set to make Father’s Day donations

HYDE PARK– As Father's Day is approaching, the Lillian Kur Fund is looking for a way to honour fathers this year.

Most charities prioritise children and homeless people, but a non-profit organisation based in Hyde Park, Lillian Kur Fund for Senior Citizens believes that old aged citizens also deserve a bit of care and this will be practised on 17 June.

In light of this, the Lillian Kur Fund believes that it is only fair to turn their focus on old people because they are often in need of some caring.

This has led to the organisation donating to old age homes, whenever they obtain sponsorships.

Founder of the fund, Chantal Kur said though they strive for donations, they ensure that the organisation does not take a single cent from its donors.

“We are very small at the moment, but we feed that older folk also need our help. We assist with food, toiletries and furniture,” said Kur. “But it has come to a realisation that the old men never get anything for Father’s Day because it seems like everyone looks after women only.”

Oftentimes, older people become weak day by day and without enough food, this leaves them medically vulnerable and in need of expensive healthcare, which they simply cannot afford.

“For Mother’s Day, we had the community donating handbags and filled them with soft treats and toiletries for the older women. So, this time around, we’re spoiling the men and we’re going to one of the poorest old age homes,” Kur continued.

Having started two years ago, Fund for Senior Citizens has received sponsorships from the most reputable and recognisable companies. Director of the organisation, Ashley Olson, who is a qualified nurse, says they’ve been doing well so far.

“Last year we had a lot of response from the public towards charity. We are hoping this project becomes a huge success like the ones we have done. It is not about success and public recognition, it is about helping senior citizens and giving them affection and some personal interaction,” said Olson.

Children walk away from their parents’ lives as they grow, this is when old age homes come into play to take care of them. Luckily this does not only end there because the Lillian Kur Fund realised that the old need care too.

So this Father’s Day, fathers can expect treats, depending which old age facility the organisation will handpick.
