Man allegedly breaks in to Roedean School

PARKTOWN – Hillbrow police arrest a suspect who allegedly broke into a boarding house at girls' school.

The man who was arrested for housebreaking at Roedean School briefly appeared in Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on 4 June.

The 22-year-old was charged following an incident on 2 June where he allegedly broke into the boarding house at the girls’ school.

Hillbrow Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the security guard of the school spotted the man on surveillance footage.

“When he realised the security had seen him, he tried to run but they chased after him and he was apprehended. I think he had the intention of stealing something but we are glad he was caught, so his docket is still with the National Prosecuting Authority,” confirmed Zondo.

Roedean School executive head, Murray Thomas confirmed in a statement that the girls are all fine and that nothing was stolen. “The girls were safely in their rooms throughout the event. Roedean ascribes to values of truth, honour, freedom and courtesy and holds the safety and well-being of our girls as a priority.”

The suspect is currently in custody and is set to appear in court for his bail application.
