Hijack attempt in Parkhurst leaves victim in a coma

PARKHURST – A motorist fell victim to a hijacking and is now in a coma after half his limbs were broken.

It was a fateful day for one Subaru driver who fell victim to a hijacking, according to social media reports from Crime Intelligence and Community Awareness in Parkhurst.

While in his driveway on Parkhurst Road, the resident was allegedly intercepted by three males. The suspects then allegedly pulled the driver out of his car and attempted to drive away with the vehicle.

As the perpetrators were making a run for it, they drove over the driver of the Subaru and dragged him about 50 metres along the road, injuring his femur, patella, all of his ribs, his pelvis, his arm as well as causing two collapsed lungs.

Seeing that the victim’s body was delaying the car movement, the perpetrators allegedly deserted the vehicle and diverted their attention to the victim’s neighbour who was just arriving home in a Range Rover.

The perpetrators allegedly shot at the neighbour who immediately stopped his vehicle and managed to pull his children out of the car, while the suspects made off with the Range Rover via a keyless entry system.

As the Range Rover owner still had his keys, the suspects were unable to travel very far and they abandoned the car near the corner of 7th and Jan Smuts avenues.

According to the reports, the victim is currently in a coma in hospital. The incident was reported to the Parkview police, according to Cortac Tactical Security Services.

Parkview police spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that a case of hijacking had been opened at the station on 27 May.
