Suthani community garden at Shoprite

BALFOUR PARK – The Suthani Community Garden raises awareness ahead of World Hunger Day.

Residents had the opportunity to buy fresh, home-grown produce in Balfour Mall.

The Shoprite group hosted the Suthani Community Garden at their Checkers store on 18 May to raise awareness ahead of World Hunger Day which takes place on 28 May.

The word suthani means well-fed, and the gardeners sell seasonal freshly grown produce to their local community. The community garden was started in 2011 in Alexandra by Kenneth Sibiya.

He said this was the second time they have partnered with the Shoprite group and added that they are very excited about its involvement in the initiative.

According to Sibiya, this initiative will help them with their garden by providing a bigger opportunity than usual to sell their produce to the local community.
