Abacus Kidz pre-schoolers prepare for ToyZone Kids’ Cycle Race

MELROSE – Abacus Kidz Pre-School youngsters do their part for the Toyzone Kids' Cycle event, which will raise and donate funds to the Smile Foundation.

The young ones from Abacus Kidz Pre-School aged between three and five years old, helped paint tyres at Melrose Arch on 10 May.

The 15 children were gearing up for the annual return of the ToyZone Kids’ Cycle Race that will be hosted on 27 May. The charity event aims at raising funds that will be donated to the Smile Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Johannesburg.

“As always, we’re grateful to Melrose Arch for their ongoing support of the Smile Foundation. It is thanks to the generosity of Melrose Arch, and other corporates and individuals, that we have been able to bring smiles to the faces of more than 2 500 children since our inception 18 years ago,” said Hedley Lewis, chief executive officer of the foundation.

The Smile Foundation assists children with facial conditions such as cleft lip and palate, nose and ear conditions, facial paralysis, burn wounds and craniofacial abnormalities.

Mike Vermaak, managing director of Melrose Arch said, “At Melrose Arch, we look forward to hosting the ToyZone Kids’ Cycle Race every year. It’s a fun day out, there’s a great atmosphere on the precinct and it’s the perfect opportunity for families to spend time together in a safe, secure environment while contributing to a worthy cause.”

The Abacus Kidz Pre-School youngsters not only had fun during the painting process but also learned the importance of assisting the less privileged. The tyres painted by the pre-schoolers will be used as barricades for the cycle race.

The best part is that children from the age of three months up to 13 years will be able to participate in the fun race as there will be four different age categories.
