DJ Dash to walk miles to build a school in KwaZulu-Natal

JOHANNESBURG – The proceeds of the walk will go towards building a school in Durban.

Thulani ‘Dj Dash’ Mzinyane will embark in a long walk from Johannesburg to Durban to help build a new school for underprivileged children in KwaZulu-Natal.

The walk will be held through his organisation, Feed a Child Feed a Nation, an initiative aimed at alleviating poverty by providing necessities to under-resourced rural schools.

Mziyane has not yet set a date for the walk, however, he has said the proceeds of this walk will go towards building a school in one of the rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the DJ, this is not the first of its kind and said he has held a number of charity initiatives in support of needy children in various parts of South Africa.

Children from Diepsloot Primary School were among the beneficiaries of the Feed a Child Feed a Nation fundraising campaign held last year by Thulani ‘DJ Dash’ Mziyane.

He said they walked from Ballito to Durban in 2012; and last year held another one from Richards Bay to Durban, as well as another one from Pretoria to Johannesburg.

These walks were to raise funds and awareness about child malnutrition, he said. “The money made at those events is used to buy food parcels and further donated to different schools around KwaZulu-Natal.

“This year will be this longest walk – from Johannesburg to Durban – to raise money to build a school in rural KZN and also we’ll be collecting food parcels to donate to needy children. We aim to feed over 20 000 kids around South Africa and this follows last year’s event where we managed to feed over 2 000 kids in various township primary schools.”

Mziyane said they also organise events with dance clubs in Durban asking different DJs and artists to perform for free and the proceeds go towards charity events in schools.

He said beneficiaries are identified with the guidance of teachers, most are those who are impacted by poverty. “These are children who don’t know where or when they will get their next meal,” he said.
