Hillbrow police have opened an inquest docket after a 24-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on 15 May in Hillbrow.
It is believed the man committed suicide on the roof of a block of flats situated on the corner of Van der Merwe and Twist streets.

The spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, said the reason for the man’s suicide remains unknown.

According to him, the man just left the apartment he shares with his older brother and girlfriend and went to the rooftop of the building where he allegedly hanged himself using a washing line. “It is not clear what caused this man to commit suicide, as there is no note or anything that justifies his actions,” said Zondo.

“According to the family, the deceased did not have a fight or an altercation with his brother or girlfriend when he committed suicide. It’s just a WhatsApp recording which does not give many details to determine the reasons for his actions.”
The victim works at one of the hair salons in the area and Zondo said further inquiries will be made by the investigating officer to ascertain if there is any information that could assist with their investigation.
