How long does it take the police to respond in an emergency?

RIVER PARK – Sandringham police have been given 13 minutes to respond to complaints.

Some residents serviced by the Sandringham Police Station have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the station’s response time in emergency calls.

A River Park resident, who identified herself only as Mokgadi said, “I appeal with our police officers to respond with a sense of urgency and also to work with us as a community policing forum as well.”

Mokgadi urged the police to be proactive and to work with the entire community in their quest to fight crime in the Johannesburg north-east area.

Lieutenant Colonel Nkosana Mbhele of the Sandringham Police Station said they were aware of such complaints adding that it was good that this had been brought to their attention. He added that the police were trying their best to improve their service and to respond as quickly as they could.

“We have been given 13 minutes to respond to complaints, by the [police] cluster, and we try our best to meet that set time,” said Mbhele.

“It is good that this has been brought to our attention and as the station, we will try our best to work on this.”

He added that his biggest worry was if residents log a complaint and his officers do not respond.

Some River Park residents complained that the station was too far to travel to from their homes.
