Johannesburg Road to get speed traps to halt speeding cars

LYNDHURST – Other roads which are earmarked for refurbishment include Van Der Linde, London and Bridge.

Speeding drivers on the busy Johannesburg Road which goes through Lyndhurst and Kew and next to Balfour Park Mall, will soon receive speeding fines from the Metro police.

This according to the Metro police’s inspector Alfred Lemao who addressed a public meeting at Lyndhurst Recreational Hall on 5 May organised by the Lyndhurst Community Policing Forum.

“The road is becoming a problem with motorists who drive there with high speed and we want to curb on that. We will be installing speed traps and soon motorists will be issued with a fine if they drive above the speed limit,” said Lemao.

“I can assure you that speed traps are coming.”

Meanwhile, Ward 81 councillor, Irene Rugheimer announced that they will also be revamping London Road. She said the road will be resurfaced and speed humps will be installed to prevent speeding and make it safer for pedestrians. “We have also identified Van Der Linde and the refurbishing plan has been approved, we are only waiting to finalise the details.”

Rugheimer added that Bridge Road near Lyndhurst is also earmarked for refurbishment.
