Bowling for charity couldn’t be more fun
KILLARNEY – Killarney Country Club hosted the annual Charity Bowls event with 150 ladies in attendance.
The morning of 3 May saw Killarney Country Club adorned in various sports colours as women from as far as Boksburg came to attend the Charity Bowls event.
These agile women were all jacked up and ready to bowl in their teams of six each as the morning commenced.
“We have 150 ladies today and winners will get beautiful suitcases, actually everyone gets something no matter their level of performance,” Annette Dimant, the primary organiser said.
The women challenged each other in healthy competitive spirit as they played across the three main fields on the club course.
The oldest bowler, Elise Ackerman (88) has been playing since 1984 and has been topping the scores. “It’s a wonderful game that I have always enjoyed. I used to play for Old Edwardians Club, and the last competition I won, alongside a string of other wins, was two years ago,” Ackerman stated.
This big event takes place once a year so the women have enough time to prepare and be fit for the games. Desiree Lavine, one of the bowlers explained that the game wasn’t as easy as it looked for it required a lot of strategising. Ground levels are not the same and one really needs a good aim in order to reach the target.
After each interval, the players added up their points and wrote them on the mini boards. After the first round, everyone retreated to have a scrumptious tea on the beautiful lawn above the mini lake below.
As soon as they had their fill and discussed their next strategies, the bowlers went back onto the field with renewed zeal. At the end of the day, the scores were added up to determine the winner and all proceeds go to the three beneficiaries CHOC, Hatzolah and Hospice.
