#ICYMI: 272 arrested after City’s raid on a hijacked property

DOORNFONTEIN - Hundreds arrested after City raids hijacked building in Doornfontein.

A total of 272 undocumented immigrants were arrested in the early hours of 3 May after the City conducted a crime prevention operation at a hijacked property in 5 Davies Street, Doornfontein.

The operation was led by the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Services Unit in conjunction with the police, the Department of Home Affairs, Metro police, Emergency Management Services and the City’s Environmental Health, Housing, Citizen Relationship and Urban Management and Social Development departments.

The arrested undocumented foreign nationals will be detained at the Jeppestown Police Station.

City of Johannesburg’s Mayor Herman Mashaba confirmed that the City would engage with the Department of Home Affairs on ensuring that those detained were properly processed. He added that those who qualified for asylum would be expeditiously issued with the relevant legal papers.
