April municipal statements posted after lengthy delay

JOBURG – April's statements were delayed for about two weeks.

An apparent VAT increase adjustment delayed the issuing of April statements to ratepayers this month, but the City of Johannesburg has finally posted, emailed and made them available for download.

The department said the delay was due to a quality assurance process to ensure customer statements would correctly reflect the impact of the change to VAT from 14 per cent to 15 per cent.

“The City took due care to ensure the statements would be easily understood by customers. In this transitional month of April, there may be some consumption from the month of March, which would attract VAT at 14 per cent and any portion of consumption from April would attract VAT at 15 per cent,” the department said.

If a ratepayer has not received their statement yet, they can get the balance by calling the City call centre on 0860 56 28 74. Option one offers an automated balance enquiry system. When choosing option one, follow the prompts, type in your nine-digit account number and wait for your balance.

Ratepayers can also check their account balance at any customer service centre across the city, the department said.

Customers may also obtain a balance on their municipal statement from any of the walk-in customer service centres across the city or, if all else fails, use the last statement received to make an average payment.

” The City emphasises the importance that customers must make payments on average monthly consumption if no balance or statement is obtained. Customers should continue paying for services used,” the department said.
