UPDATE: Shooting incident on M1 near Glenhove offramp

ROSEBANK – Motorists are advised to rather use the 11th Avenue offramp or alternative routes. 

UPDATE, 19 April, 11am:

Saps provincial spokesperson Captain Mavila Masondo stated that two suspects shot the victim eight times while he was in his vehicle.

He added that the victim was of Pakistan or Indian decent.

No suspects have been arrested and police are still unsure as to what the motive was.

 

Earlier, 18 April, 6.18pm:

Several lanes on the M1 highway near the Glenhove Road offramp are closed to traffic after a shooting incident on the highway.

The Chief of Metro police took to Twitter just before 6pm today, 18 April, to warn motorists to avoid the area. It was advised that motorists rather take the 11th Avenue offramp or use alternative routes.

According to a flood of reports on Twitter, it appears a man was shot multiple times on the highway. According to a tweet by Jacaranda FM News, the Metro police have said a man in his late 30s appeared to have been shot about eight times.

Social cohesion advocate, Yusuf Abramjee also said it was believed the motorist sustained multiple shots. Abramjee went on to say the incident resembled a ‘hit’.

Motorists described the traffic delays caused due to some lanes being closed while police investigate the crime scene. Some who witnessed the incident also tweeted about what they saw.
