Tanzanian nationals arrested in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG – Two suspects have been arrested following a violent robbery in Johannesburg.

 

The Johannesburg Central Police arrested two Tanzanian nationals for common robbery on 13 April.

The two suspects, between the ages of 24 and 25, were apprehended on the corner of Goud and Jeppe streets at 3pm. A spokesperson for the police, Captain Xoli Mbele said, “It is alleged that six suspects robbed a 27-year-old male at the corner of Claim and Plein streets on 13 April at 2.50pm. The victim was walking along when one of the suspects choked him while his accomplices took the victim’s handbag, which contained his cellphone, money and a Telkom modem.”

The victim screamed for help and the community came to his rescue. Police who were patrolling the area apprehended two suspects. The handbag was recovered, but the modem was not inside.

The two suspects who were arrested will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 17 April. The remaining four suspects are still at large and the investigation is still ongoing.
