Johannesburg Central Police nab man for firearm and ammunition

JOHANNESBURG – The suspect was spotted by the patrollers working with the police.

 

Members of the Johannesburg Central Police Station in conjunction with community patrollers arrested a 26-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to the station’s spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele, “Community patrollers and the police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties on the corner of Klein and Noord streets on 31 March when they saw a suspicious-looking male carrying a plastic bag.

“They approached and asked to search him. The patrollers recovered a firearm with no serial number and live ammunition.”

The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Johannesburg Central police holding cells.

Mbele said an investigation is underway and the suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
