Masonic lodge hosts open day

KENSINGTON – The Masonic Lodges hosted a special open day at their Kensington Masonic Hall on 21 March.

The Masonic Lodges hosted a special open day at the Kensington Masonic Hall on 21 March to attract new and prospective members to join their fraternity.

Assistant district grand master Simon Knutton said the fraternity decided to have an open day in Kensington as they have four lodges that meet there. Freemasonry is a place for men to meet and has a current worldwide membership of over six million.

Knutton said, “It is to bring like-minded men together with the view of putting them on a path to self-improvement. It is a positive environment that reminds every Mason of his duty, community, family and himself.

“Approximately R26-million in donations have been made to charities by the district of South Africa, North and its Lodges over the past 21 years,” he added.

Knutton said charity is one of the important facets of Freemasonry, and while Freemasonry is not a benevolent society, it actively practices charity. “Our members are expected to care for those in society who are in need and less fortunate than themselves, whether they be Freemasons or not,” said Knutton.
