New 3D animation set to wow kids

ROSEBANK – South Africa's newest 3D animated series, Munki & Trunk is set to keep kids entertained.

South Africa’s first 3D animated commission, Munki & Trunk will show on DSTV’s Nickelodeon from 2 April.

Munki & Trunk is produced by Sunrise Productions and follows the adventures of two friends, a monkey named Munki and elephant named Trunk.

The seven-minute dialogue-free series is a spin-off of the highly successful two-time Golden Horn Award winner, Jungle Beat – which is a 3D family-friendly comedy series about a different animal character and their funny encounters in nature.

Producer Tim Keller said Munki & Trunk will see children between the ages of four and seven captivated by the storylines. “The kids will enjoy this show very much because they will get to see the kind of adventures the friends go on and also learn something in the process,” he said.

Sam Wilson, who wrote the show, said they wanted to create something that depicted intimate emotions. “We have these characters but we hardly see by themselves and when they come together, their personalities come out,” she said.

He added that it has been a fun, exploratory process discovering the two characters.

Wilson said he refers to the animal characters as people because they are full of personality. He said the different element in making Munki & Trunk, as opposed to other productions, is the relationship between the two main characters that is something one rarely sees on TV.
