Two nabbed for theft by Bramley police

BRAMLEY – Local police arrest two suspects for theft from a home in the area.

A vigilant homeowner and the quick response by police saw two suspects taken off the streets.

According to Captain Molefe Mogodi, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, their sector policing members were called to a home in Bramley, where suspects were allegedly helping themselves to goods.

“It is alleged the complainant was at home when he heard a loud bang and went out to investigate. He saw two men inside the yard. One was hiding while the other was jumping over the gate,” Mogodi explained.

He mentioned that the homeowner then called the police to attend to the crime and it is reported that the police arrived quickly and when the suspects saw the police, they tried to run away but were arrested.

“They were found in possession of heavy-duty tools allegedly stolen from the property,” Mogodi added.

The suspects are aged between 25 and 29 years old respectively and they will appear in court soon.

The police spokesperson also mentioned that the two suspects will be profiled with the intention of finding out whether they are on the wanted list or if they can be linked to any other crimes committed in the area or elsewhere.

Bramley station commander, Colonel Owen John King praised the members for their swift response, which yielded good results and he encouraged them to keep up the good work. He said he also appreciates the action taken by the complainant in that he didn’t hesitate to call the police. Mogodi also called on the community to be vigilant at all times while in their homes.

He said the following tips can serve as preventive measures to avoid house robberies:

  • Always make sure that all windows are closed and doors locked
  • Upon your arrival home, look out for suspicious people near your house.
  • Activate the house alarm once you are inside.
  • Do not open doors to people unknown to you even if they are driving a vehicle bearing the name of a known company.
  • Be careful of people claiming to be police knocking at your door. Demand identification or alternatively call the sector vehicle.
  • Avoid going out of the house to check why the dog is barking, rather look through the window or alert the police should you suspect a crime, or contact your security company to assist.
