Norwood’s women’s forum commemorates Human Rights Day

NORWOOD – The event aims to encourage people to know their rights and respect other people's rights too.

Residents of Johannesburg north-east suburbs are invited to attend the annual Human Rights Day to be held on 24 March.

The event is organised by the 7324 Women’s Forum and will be held in Norwood at a venue still to be confirmed.

The forum’s organiser, Natasha Magadlela, said the aim of the celebration is to tackle issues concerning the community and human rights violations.

Human Rights Day is not just another public holiday and this year will be celebrating under their theme, ‘No to the violation of human’s rights in our community’, according to Magadlela.

“We celebrate the fact that our citizens have human rights and that we are all equal and, furthermore, that we can embrace our diverse cultures, traditions, race and differences.

In a nutshell, we celebrate our rights as humans.

“We invite all residents to attend and celebrate our rights as humans but most importantly to learn that we have a responsibility to respect the rights and freedom of others as set out in the Bill of Rights in our Constitution.”

There will be loads of activities at the event and Magadlela added that there will also be a play on human rights, speeches on human rights violations from various guest speakers, HIV testing, singing and dancing as well as refreshments.
