Shavathon takes root at Melrose Estate

MELROSE – Companies raise R10 000 for Cansa with shavathon event.

Fine Wine importers Great Domaines and FPM Group of Companies, which specialises in risk, wealth management, fiduciary and short-term insurance, held a shavathon at their offices in Melrose Estate as a way to raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa).

The intra-company event saw over 70 of the companies’ employees colour their heads and parade their most colourfully outrageous outfits on 9 March. Food stalls were also set-up and a raffle draw held with the objective of raising an amount of R10 000 for Cansa.

“What we want to do is actually give back where we can,” said financial director at Great Domaines and FPM Group of Companies, Venetia Buissinne. “The whole methodology is that it’s not just something driven by the shareholders, but everybody in the organisation. Everybody is a caring person and it’s fantastic to see.”

Michelle Diener, a cancer survivor who is employed as a bookkeeper at Great Domaines said she was thrilled with putting the charity event together.

“I actually think it’s a great idea and makes me feel good that I’ve done this as a cancer survivor myself,” said Diener, who added that the event was a successful one due to the contributions of all the employees at the company. “In this kind of company, everybody is up for a challenge.

“Everybody had their stalls and I think it’s been very successful. [The event] was way beyond my expectations and I think we’ve raised a lot of money and awareness for cancer.”
