Balfour Park Mall thwarts car thieves

BALFOUR PARK – A suspect was apprehended by Easy Security after allegedly attempting to steal two cars at Balfour Park Mall.

The Balfour Park Mall and Easy Security successfully arrested a suspect who allegedly attempted to steal two cars on the afternoon of 13 March.

Security site manager for Easy Security, Thomas Mudau, said he was patrolling mall’s parking lot with a colleague when they noticed three suspicious individuals.

“I told my colleague that I do not trust these three. I left and when I got back our security guard had arrested one of the criminals who had tried to break into a car,” said Mudau.

Mudau added that the suspect had allegedly attempted to use a small implement to pick the lock on one car but failed and soon moved to another car. The suspect allegedly broke the driver’s side window before he was apprehended by the Easy Security guard.

The security called the Norwood Police Station and officers arrived and arrested the suspect while the other two fled.

Freek Geyser from Balfour Park Mall centre management commended the work done by the security guards. He said, “To catch a car thief is difficult and our guards have done an incredible job today.”
