ICYMI: Black Coffee at The Apollo

JOBURG – Black Coffee performs at The Apollo Theater.

World-renowned DJ, Black Coffee, keeps on breaking the glass ceiling.

He breaks barriers to the point where the phrase ‘sky’s the limit’ is questionable.

On 3 March, the muso performed at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York as part of the theatre’s #AfricaNow concert. Now in its sixth year, the annual #AfricaNow concert celebrates trailblazers in Africa’s current music scene. The 2018 edition spotlighted Africa’s contemporary trends in electronic music, making Black Coffee a suitable choice as his music and performances are a blend of afro-house, deep tech and deep house that borderlines chilled electronic music.

Black Coffee’s night at The Apollo was one for the history books – literally, he actually signed his name in the theatre’s book as well as on their wall on stage. He did this with the hope that other South African acts would also jot their names next to his in the future. Black Coffee now joins the likes of Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Prince, D’Angelo and South African legend, Hugh Masekela to have done so.
