Residents clean up their community

SYDENHAM – The Sydenham Residents Association got involved with A Re Sebetseng initiative and cleaned up their area.

The Sydenham Residents Association spent 16 and 17 February taking part in the A Re Sebetseng clean-up in their local area.

The A Re Sebetseng programme is spearheaded by the City of Johannesburg to motivate local residents to go out and clean up the city. The Sydenham Residents Association heeded that call and spent time near Orange Grove Primary School on 16 February and in Sandringham on 17 February to pick up filth and litter.

Former Ward 72 councillor, Steven Kruger; DA shadow MEC of Health, Jack Bloom; secretary for the Sydenham Residents Association, Alisa Scott and urban inspector of Ward 72, Philiswa Magidela.

Secretary for the association, Alisa Scott said, “I believe that beautiful surroundings create pride in our suburb.

“A suburb that is neat and attractive will attract residents who take pride in their homes too. We also encourage residents to get together and lend a hand building a sense of community and camaraderie. It’s important for neighbours to know each other and look out for each other.”

Scott expressed pride in the work done in those areas adding that the corner of Edward Avenue and Margaret Rose Street in particularly looked beautiful.

She recommended that all residents associations should get involved with the A Re Sebetseng initiative. She said, “The A Re Sebetseng initiative is for all of Johannesburg and will benefit every suburb if adhered to properly and passionately.

“If every Joburg resident learns to clean up after themselves, it would be amazing. Sydenham and Sandringham are proud to set a good example for all our surrounding suburbs and we challenge them to join in.”
