Yeoville residents concerned about untidy state of area

YEOVILLE – The Johannesburg Roads Agency and City Parks fail to cut grass in Yeoville even though residents have complained about this for over a year.

For over a year, the residents of Yeoville have tried to get the City of Johannesburg to help tidy up the area but to no avail.

Residents have complained that the grass on the side of the road has been left uncut even though they have tried to contact the City to deal with the issue.

Ian Levinson, a resident of St Peter Road, said he has been trying for a year now to contact the entity responsible for cutting the grass.

Levinson said, “Uncut grass on St Peter Road and Eckstein Street as well as on Ellis Street is a major frustration. Whenever I contacted Johannesburg City Parks the respondent just hung up the phone. I’m left with no ideas who to contact to report the issue.”

He then contacted North Eastern Tribune to assist, which then contacted Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo on 15 February. The matter was, however, referred to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

Marketing manager for the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Jenny Moodley said, “This is a JRA responsibility. Please refer all long grass concerns on sidewalks, main arterials and pavements to the Joburg Roads Agency.”

When contacted, spokesperson for the agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers referred the paper back to City Parks stating it was their responsibility.

Peters-Scheepers said, “City Parks is now responsible for cutting grass on order from JRA. Please contact City Parks for comment.”
