St John’s College Preparatory School celebrated World Read Aloud Day on 8 February with great passion and enthusiasm.
The day saw older boys from the college reading to the preparatory boys.
Spokesperson for the school, Jacqui Deeks said, “The day began with a story read to the preparatory by college head boy, Raymond Barrow. Choosing an excerpt from master storyteller Roald Dahl’s autobiography, Going Solo.”
“He held the boy’s attention with his engaging and animated reading. He is an incredible ambassador for both the value and joy of reading and St John’s College.”
The Grade 7 then took their favourite children’s picture book to the pre-preparatory to share with the Grade 0 to 2.
Headmistress of the pre-preparatory school Nicky Sutler said, “It is an intimate ‘one-on-one time’ with your child, which is becoming more and more rare in our frantic modern world. When I asked the Grade 3s if their parents still read to them, only a handful put up their hands. When I asked them why, there responses were mostly that their parents were too busy or always on their phones or computers.”
