Jeppe police embark on Johannesburg north-east school safety plan

JEPPE – The school safety plan campaign will be rolled out to all schools in the Jeppe police policing precinct throughout the month of February.

As part of their schools’ safety plan campaign, the Jeppe police have visited several schools in their areas of service to sensitise children about bad behaviour.

The police collaborated with Lifeline, the Department of Community Safety, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) and the community policing forum (CPF) and visited Queens, Jules and Athlone Boys high schools on various occasions to give guidance and warn them about the dangers of committing a crime.

The spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyayi, said their schools’ safety plan campaign will run throughout the month of February and is an ideal platform to address violence and crime in the community by targeting children at schools.

“The Saps talked to the learners about bullying, carrying illegal weapons and substance abuse as well as hitch-hiking by learners on the roads,” said Munyayi.

“Sanca talked about substance abuse and rehabilitation while Lifeline educated the learners about counselling and any assistance they might need as young people.”

The community policing forum finished the programme by encouraging the youngsters to work and trust these departments in order for them to be successful.
