Suspects arrested for various offences

Johannesburg – All the 134 arrests were made in three days.

The Johannesburg East Cluster police have arrested 134 suspects over the last weekend for committing various offences in their areas of service.

The suspects were arrested between 26 and 28 January for crimes ranging from murder to possession of drugs.

Captain Richard Munyayi, the spokesperson for the Johannesburg East Cluster police stations said their team worked extremely hard to make all the arrests.

“The management wants to praise the Joburg east community for continuing to work with the law enforcement agencies and sharing information when they notice suspicious events taking place in their areas,” said Munyayi.

The arrests are as follows:

  • One for trespassing
  • One for perjury
  • One for reckless driving and negligence
  • One for malicious damage to property
  • One for possession of stolen properties
  • One for receiving and possession of stolen property
  • One for murder
  • One for theft of copper cables
  • Two for house breaking and theft
  • Two for child abuse
  • Two for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • Two for shoplifting
  • Two for robbery
  • Two for drunk and driving
  • Two for fraud
  • Four for possession of drugs
  • Five for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm q 5 for theft
  • Eight for assault
  • 14 for possession of dagga
  • 81 for being in the country illegally.

“The arrested suspects have appeared in different courts. Some of them have already paid fines and bail while others remain in police custody for further investigation,” said Munyayi. “The police will continue arresting those who contravene the law.”
