#ThrowbackThursday: Brave security guards save the day after car catches fire

PARKTOWN NORTH – Our officers are always prepared, says the security company boss.

One year ago, today, this was our top trending story! Do you remember it?

Cortac Security officers came to the aid of a vehicle owner whose car caught fire on 3rd Avenue in Parktown North on 25 January 2017.

According to a witness and neighbour of the vehicle owner, an unoccupied Landrover Freelander burst into flames in a driveway and rolled backwards onto the road. The vehicle knocked over a road sign and then came to a halt.

Coincidentally, an ER24 ambulance was driving down the quiet street and the paramedics contacted the fire department and closed the road off for safety.

“I called Cortac Security as I know the tactical officers all have fire extinguishers in their vehicles,” said the witness.

“The first Cortac vehicle arrived within a minute of the call to the control centre and began putting the fire out.”

Additional security vehicles arrived on the scene and one officer controlled traffic while the other assisted with extinguishing the fire.

Mark Notelovitz, managing director at Cortac, said their security personnel are trained in basic firefighting and first aid. As a company, they see themselves as more than a security provider and are always prepared to go beyond the call of duty. “Our officers are always prepared,” said Netelovitz.

“All vehicles are equipped with fire extinguishers and first aid equipment. We always support the community every way we can.”
