Eight arrested in Lombardy East thanks to tip-off

LOMBARDY EAST – Sandringham police have been fighting crime in the area.

Sandringham police officers arrested eight suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and a stolen vehicle on 15 January in Lombardy East.

Spokesperson for Sandringham Police Station, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo said, “At 4.45am on 15 January the Gauteng Provincial Investigation Team alongside the Johannesburg North Cluster police gathered at the suspects’ address in Lombardy East following a tip-off.

The police officers entered the property when the suspects scattered and attempted to evade arrest by jumping over the walls in the backyard.

“With the help of the neighbours, police managed to arrest eight suspects. Two suspects were injured, with one sustaining a gunshot wound in the abdomen from police fire and another who broke his left leg while jumping over a neighbour’s wall.”

Mamabolo said the two injured suspects received medical attention under police guard.

One vehicle on the property was found to be stolen in Fochville. Police also recovered two AK-47s and two handguns with ammunition. The serial numbers of all the firearms were filed off.

The uninjured suspects appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 17 January and faced charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and unlicensed firearms.
