Fake job hunters rob restaurant

NORWOOD – The robbers entered the restaurant and pretended to be looking for work.

Three armed men are on the run and sought by the Norwood police for allegedly robbing a local Nett Door Restaurant on Grant Street at gunpoint on 8 January.

According to the police, two of the three suspects entered the restaurant and pretended to be looking for jobs while the other suspect remained in the car.

When the manager of the restaurant requested their CVs they told him they do not have them, said Norwood police spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase.

“The one suspect pulled out a firearm and demanded the manager to show him where the money safe is. The two suspects ordered him to the kitchen at the back of the restaurant where they instructed him and other business employees to lie down. The third suspect then came inside with a big bag that they used to take bottles of expensive alcohol.”

Tshivhase said the suspects also took employees’ cellphones but could not get the money. The value of the alcohol and cellphones that were taken amount to about R9 000. No one was injured.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Norwood Police Station and an investigation is underway.

When approached for comment, the restaurant owner would not give any details, including his name, to the North Eastern Tribune. “I don’t think I want to speak about this matter with the press because it will give my business and the area a bad publicity. We’re a small business community around here and this will give us a bad publicity.”

Details: Norwood Police Station 011 483 4609.
