St Teresa’s matrics celebrate their 100 per cent pass rate

ROSEBANK– These matric students obtained 153 distinctions with 10 of the girls obtaining six or more distinctions

Matriculants and teachers gathered at St Teresa’s School in Rosebank to collect their final matric results and celebrate their 100 per cent pass rate.

The 51 girls received 153 distinctions with 10 of the matrics obtaining six or more distinctions. Six of the girls were also ranked within the top five per cent of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) achievers.

Catherine Hamilton, the headmistress of St Teresa’s, said that it had been a fantastic experience working with the matric students. “The girls are modest and hard workers and when you see the results you cant believe how humble they are.”

Hamilton added that it had been a challenging year with many of the girls involved in various activities at the school. “Our top achievers are also top achievers in other areas so they have to try and balance that as well. A lot of the children have a lot to do and they don’t just have an opportunity to concentrate on their studies and that’s what we’re amazed at.”

Eileen Odaga said learning at St Teresa’s had been a great experience. “I’m very proud of my results. It was very stressful and I didn’t think that I would get the results that I did.” Eileen will be doing a BSc degree this year and hopes to study medicine.

Bethan Martell added that she was also happy with her results. “It was very stressful but once I got into it I realised I just have to try to do my hardest.”

Genevie Liebenberg, who obtained two distinctions, said she hopes to study occupational therapy at the University of the Witwatersrand. “I’ve been here since Grade 00 and I’ve loved it but I’m looking forward to the future now.”
