Two suspects were arrested for alleged cable theft in Emmarentia after a group of men were spotted digging up copper cables.
On 30 November at about 8am, a man from the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality was tasked with replacing a stolen cable in Kei Road. On arrival, the man noticed six men digging up about 22m long copper cables.
The man found security officers in the area and asked them to assist him.
When they approached the group of men, four suspects ran away while the other two were apprehended.
Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for Parkview Police Station said, “Crime prevention members were busy patrolling around Parkview precinct when they received the complaint from radio control.”
Constable Lufuno Lishivha and Constable Reratiloe Marota attended to a complaint of attempted theft of copper cable and both suspects were arrested for attempted theft of copper cable as they were found in possession of spades and picks.
Both suspects will appear in Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.
“Parkview police would like to thank the security officers and the police members working around the Parkview precinct for their hard work and dedication in the fight against crime,” concluded Sibeko.
