Three Greenside thieves get 12 years each

GREENSIDE – Three men were arrested earlier this year for suspected housebreaking, theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.

 

Three men have been found guilty of housebreaking, theft and possession of stolen property and have each been sentenced to 12 years.

On 13 January, two police officers from the Parkview Police Station were patrolling Greenside and conducted a stop-and-search of a suspicious vehicle. According to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Sihle Mazibuko and Constable Lufuno Lishivha stopped the vehicle, which had three passengers. Two of the passengers ran away.

“They searched the third suspect who was in possession of the bag suspected to be stolen. The police officials called for backup and they started searching for the two suspects,” said Sibeko.

The fleeing suspects were found on Greenhill Road in Greenside with a bag. When the bag was searched and a laptop, cameras, binoculars and watches were found. The suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

“The docket was allocated to Detective Sergeant Zachariah Masindi for further investigation, evidence was gathered and he managed to secure a 12-year sentence with the evidence presented to the court.”

The three suspects were linked with a housebreaking and theft that had occurred in Greenside. The Johannesburg Magistrate found the accused, Tshepo Moloi (30), Bafana Thusi (31) and Boitumelo Bokolo (35), guilty on three charges.

The station commander, Colonel Zacharia Gopane, welcomed the sentence and congratulated Sergeant Zachariah Masindi for his hard work and dedication.
