Robyn Picas, the current principal of the Sacred Heart College’s primary school in Observatory, will retire at the end of this year, with a new principal having been appointed already.
Dr Mark Potterton, a renowned educational expert, will take over the reins from Picas and lead the primary school.

Potterton has been involved in educational projects throughout South Africa and Lesotho and has authored many articles and books on educational issues.
He also served as the director of the Catholic Institute of Education and the chief operating officer of Umalusi.
The expert joins Sacred Heart College after five years as the principal of Holy Family College in Parktown.
The statement, with a subject line: Appointment of a new principal, read that the request to appoint Potterton to replace Picas comes from the college’s board.
Potterton previously taught at Sacred Heart College and was part of the integrated studies team of the 80s where he was involved in writing one of the textbooks used for that curriculum.

Sacred Heart College’s spokesperson, Lynn Walker confirmed the news and said the school looks forward to welcoming him.
“Yes, it is indeed true. Our current primary school principal, Robyn Picas is retiring at the end of the year and we have appointed Mark Potterton as the new primary school principal from January 2018,” Walker said.
Potterton was not yet available for comment at time of publishing.
