Suspects detained for serious offences

Norwood – Police encourage residents in the Joburg East to help by reporting crime.

Norwood Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase said they have arrested 34 suspects for committing various criminal offences in the Joburg East suburbs.

The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from assault to shoplifting between 22 October and 3 November in various operations, added Tshivhase.

The arrests were as follows:

  • 1 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for intimidation
  • 1 for contempt of court
  • 1 for possession of counterfeit cigarettes
  • 1 for shoplifting
  • 1 for armed robbery
  • 1 for theft of a motor vehicle
  • 2 for malicious damage to property
  • 2 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 3 for assault common
  • 3 for warrants of arrest
  • 3 illegal immigrants
  • 3 for theft of petrol
  • 5 for theft
  • 6 for possession of dagga

“All the suspects have appeared in court and others have been granted bail while others still remain in police custody for further investigations,” said Tshivhase.
