Ronnie Recycler and Mrs SA finalist visit Frida Hartley Shelter

BELLEVUE – donating your waste will help a shelter generate cash.

Mpact Recycling in partnership with Mrs South Africa finalist Bayanda Gumede encourages local residents to recycle their waste.

Mpact, a leading paper recycler in South Africa, partnered with Gumede for the third consecutive year on this drive. Through their partnership, they visited Frida Hartley Shelter in Bellevue accompanied by Adele Thompson from Mpact Recycling and their mascot, Ronnie Recycler on 27 October.

Thompson said residents can take all their recyclables to the Frida Hartley Shelter to help generate income for the shelter. “Donating recyclable material to the shelter will help them as they will get paid for the recyclables, and ensure that it goes to reputable sources which are responsible and sustainable,” said Thomson.

“By recycling their paper, residents benefit the environment in a number of ways by diverting recyclable paper away from landfills, reducing the reliance on virgin fibre and greenhouse gas emissions, and prevents the incineration of recyclable paper.”

This paper is used in the manufacture of recycled paper and packaging, she added.

Gumede, a Fairland resident, encouraged more residents and businesses in the area to play their part in saving the environment. “They can do that by donating all their unwanted paper, magazines, newspapers, cartons etc to the Fairland Garden Site for recycling,” she said.

“This initiative will give the community the opportunity to give back by donating recycling material to the Frida Hartley Shelter.”
