Row over derelict Bramley houses continues

BRAMLEY – The matter has been reported to the City's Environmental Health Department

Residents of Junction Road in Bramley say there is still no action taken to deal with derelict houses in Bramley even though the matter has been reported to the authorities.

The houses were demolished and the yards are full of motor vehicle scrap and the grass remains uncut causing the manifestation of rats.

According to a resident, Tony Saunders, the houses are owned by a multimillionaire franchise businessman, but they [the houses] remain deserted.

Saunders has accused their Ward 74 councillor David Fisher of not taking any action about their plight, saying he is ignoring them.

“David Fisher is just not interested in assisting us to deal with the matter and he is not even taking my calls or my email,” said Saunders.

“Since North Eastern Tribune reported about this matter we haven’t seen any action taken even though we had hoped that the authorities will do something about this. This shows that they don’t care about our concerns considering that this situation is devaluing our properties.”

He cited health and safety issues as their major concerns that need to be dealt with urgently because of the manifestation of rodents in the area.

Fisher, however, hit back saying he has in fact communicated with Saunders as well as other residents in the area about this issue.

“In looking back I see that I did, in fact, communicate very often with Mr Saunders…I have been communicating with various other residents in the area,” said Fisher.

“In one of the emails, I informed him of the town planner who handled the re-zoning from residential to business. I don’t know if he has engaged with him to understand the plan for the site.”

The councillor, however, said he does not have the latest status about the issue but told the Tribune that the City of Joburg Environmental Health Department is handling the issue as he has reported it to them.

Details: Ward 74 councillor David Fisher 082 822 6070.
