Students from King Edward School helped raise over R20 000 for a former student who is confined to a wheelchair and needs assistance to pay for the care home in which he stays.
On 1 November the school hosted a Funky Tie Day in order to help raise money for David Cox, the former student. Headmaster David Lovatt, house leaders and the 2018 Mentors were instrumental in garnering support for the David Cox Fund-Raising project.
The target of R15 000 was set for the boys to raise. If they managed to reach their target, then Lovatt, teacher Martin Bain-Venn and head boy Keane Morse agreed to shear their ‘golden locks’ for this cause
Students discarded their school blazers for funky ties on the day. The school spirit was on a high as staff and students brought in their donations and all day long the anticipation rose.

On 2 November, the school hosted an assembly where Lovatt announced that the boys had far exceeded their fundraising goal. The school had raised R23 821 in total, with Hill House raising almost R6 000 for the cause.
Following the announcement, Lovatt, Bain-Venn, and teacher Grant McKenzie took up the challenge to have their heads shaved. Students Morse, Wesley Hurter and Liam Momberg accepted the challenge and also had their heads shaved in acknowledgement that the school had reached and surpassed its goal.
