SANDRINGHAM – The Sandringham police arrested a suspect involved in a robbery in Rembrandt Park.

Sandringham police officers arrested a suspect on 19 October in Rembrandt Park, who was in possession of three stolen cellphones and an unlicensed firearm.

At 6.30pm in an open field in Rembrandt Park, two suspects, one with a firearm and the other armed with a pocket knife, robbed two local residents. A spokesperson for the Sandringham police, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo said they robbed the victims of three cellphones, a wristwatch and R70.

He added that as soon as the suspects fled, one of the victims ran to the nearest intersection alerting a 7 Arrows Security vehicle which soon informed the police. Mamabolo said that they soon found the suspects.

One of the suspects fled the scene while the police were able to arrest the other suspect who was involved in the robbery. “The arrested suspect was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the stolen products,” said Mamabolo.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and detained by the Sandringham police and was charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen goods. He appeared at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 20 October.
