Norwood police search for car thieves

MOUNTAIN VIEW – A pensioner was robbed and her Polo was taken, while a husband and his wife were hijacked.

Norwood police spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase reported that they are searching for criminals who robbed and hijacked residents in separate incidents.

According to Tshivhase, a pensioner was robbed while she was at her house in Hope Road in Mountain View on 11 October.

He told North Eastern Tribune that the elderly woman heard a noise outside her house and immediately went to investigate. “To her surprise, two men pounced on her and ordered her not to scream and tied her hands before she was told to lie down,” said Tshivhase.

“They then demanded a key to her safe but she told them she does not have a safe in the house. The two suspects then took R500 which was in her bag and a TV worth about R4 000.”

They then took her white VW Polo Classic and drove away in it, added Tshivhase. The victim was left unharmed and the police are investigating a case of car theft and house robbery.

In a separate incident, a man and his wife were hijacked of their Mercedes Benz worth R1,6 million in their house’s driveway on 5 October.

According to Tshivhase, the incident took place at around 9pm on 10th Street in Highlands North. “The husband and his wife were coming from the shops when they were hijacked by three suspects who were driving a white Toyota Corolla. The Mercedes was, however, recovered later in Bram Fischerville in Soweto,” he said.

An arrest has been made but Tshivhase said an investigation is underway.
