Rosebank Police secure five-year conviction

ROSEBANK – Constable Lesiba Ledwaba helped secure the five-year conviction.

Rosebank Police Station is celebrating the five-year conviction of a house burglar and car thief.

Constable Lesiba Ledwaba worked tirelessly on the case in order to ensure the conviction.

According to Ledwaba, the case was opened in August last year when a woman who had gone away for the weekend asked her brother to check her residence. Upon arriving at her house, the brother noticed his sister’s car parked outside the house which to him was highly unusual.

The man alerted the police who jumped the fence of the property in order to determine if there was anything out of the ordinary. Once inside the yard the officer realised that the house had been ransacked.

“It was clothes, televisions, duvets and sound systems which were stolen from the house. When they went inside the garage they also noticed that a Subaru was missing,” said Ledwaba.

The missing car was located in Tembisa and investigators were able to find fingerprints in the car.

A confidential informant told detectives that two men who had been involved in the robbery were arrested. Fingerprints which were taken from one of the men matched those found in the stolen vehicle.

“One suspect the court declined to prosecute because of lack of evidence and the other was convicted for five years for the theft of the motor vehicle.”

Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, the spokesperson for the Rosebank Police Station said, “The case goes from the Client Service Centre to the detectives and the hard part is with the detective. He has to make sure that whatever we have gathered from the commission of the crime to the time he has to investigate the matter, that it is taken to the prosecutor and we have to make sure the docket stays on the role until he gets a conviction.

“As a station, we applaud the good work that they do. Most of our criminals are repeat offenders so we need to remove them from the streets and get more convictions for 20 years or 30 years.”
