King Edward Prep celebrates 110 years

PARKTOWN – The boys from King Edward VII Preparatory School celebrated the school 110th birthday.

The staff, learners and parents of King Edward VII Preparatory School celebrated their 110th birthday through a tribute to a Broadway performance at the Linder Auditorium on 17 October.

Spokesperson for the event Helen Dubois, who wrote the script and emceed the event alongside actor Vaughn Lucas, said that all learners and staff members were involved in the production which saw performances of Broadway classics such as Do-Re-Me from The Sound of Music and local hits such as Doo Bee Doo by Freshlyground.

The script was an intermingling of the history of Broadway and the history of the school.

Lucas and DuBois hosted the event dressed in clothing found in the school’s local swop shop. These costumes had been modified by local designer Bianca Buchanan from African Queen in Linden.

“The staff were absolutely blown away by all the performances. The unsung heroes of the day were the staff because they put so much work into it and all the boys had been rehearsing since earlier this year,” said DuBois.

The headmaster of the school Doug Shead said, “Thanks so much to the entire King Edward VII Preparatory School family for an incredible production. It was fantastic that we had practically the whole school of boys in the show with a brilliant effort put in by one and all.”
